Grupo Iguatemi - Shopping JK Iguatemi
Iguatemi Empresa de Shopping Centers was established in 1979, when Grupo Jereissati acquired the assets of Construtora Alfredo Matias S.A, owner at that time of Iguatemi São Paulo, the first mall in Brazil and Latin America.
Since then, Iguatemi has grown and became the first company of the industry to go public. It ranks 31st as the most valuable brand in the country, being responsible for managing 13 shopping centers in Brazil, focusing on the state of São Paulo and capitals with relevant income volume, such as Brasília and Porto Alegre. In total, the company generates 1,500 direct jobs and over 11,000 indirect jobs.
In order to become what it is today, the company invested heavily to expand its business. In May 1980, it opened Iguatemi Campinas, the first mall outside the city of São Paulo, in which holds a majority stake of 65%.
In April 1983, the Company opened its first venture in southern Brazil, Iguatemi Porto Alegre, in which has a shareholding of 36%. In October 1991, it made a new investment in the south: the company opened the mall Praia de Belas, in which owns approximately 37.5% of the business.
To consolidate the strategy of targeting at the audience with greater purchasing power, it inaugurated Market Place in September 1995. This was its second shopping center in the city of Sao Paulo and Iguatemi’s debut in the segment of mixed-use project. Currently, the company holds a 100% interest in Market Place.
In 1996, there were two openings: Iguatemi Rio and Iguatemi Caxias do Sul, its third venture in southern Brazil.
Opened in 1997, Iguatemi São Carlos was the second shopping center in the countryside of São Paulo state and the symbol of the consolidation strategy in the region.
In February 2007, the company took another important step. The IPO allowed Iguatemi to improve its expansion process. Once again, it demonstrated its pioneering spirit, debuting on the stock exchange before all other companies of the industry.
Iguatemi Florianopolis was the first shopping center of the group launched after the IPO. Today the company owns a 30% stake in the mall, consolidating its presence in Southern Brazil.
In 2008, Iguatemi opened its first venture outside the Southeast and South regions.
Iguatemi Brasília - built in one of the finest areas of the Federal Capital - also represents a new architectural model adopted by Iguatemi, which favors the entry of natural light and the integration with the environment.
The most recent opening, Iguatemi Alphaville mall, is a further evidence that the corporate mission - to be the best company in the industry - is being taken seriously. With natural lighting and integration, the shopping center has introduced a new format and attracted a dozen restaurants, creating a gastronomic hub so far inexistent in the region.
Right now, in addition to JK Iguatemi, the company has four other Green Field projects under development. Iguatemi strategy is focused on increasing the leadership in the countryside of São Paulo state. By 2014, Ribeirão Preto, Votorantim, São José do Rio Preto and Jundiaí will count on projects of the group.
